Wildball soccer

Ok, so tonight we ate our dinner around a yard fire and then played around in our backyard, one of the things we played was soccer. In our backyard.

If you have been to our house you know our backyard is not to well suited for soccer, at least the standard kind.
Here is a little description:  Our backyard also has pipes, low-hanging branches, short steep hills, a 5 foot railroad-tie retaining wall, a few outbuildings, chairs, play-structure, swimming pool,  and on top of all that we have dogs, and they dug holes all over the backyard. Actually the holes aren't all made by dogs, my younger siblings made a lot of holes too.

Perfect for soccer.

Now Grandma, let me answer your question that probably goes something like this: "isn't that dangerous?"

Well actually YES.

So the game started out with my team, (Jenessa, Jonah, Joseph, and of course me) which I'll call the Blue team, having the ball and Dad and Jacobs team, (Dad, Jacob, Julianna, and Jessalyn) Red team, defending. Next is a sort of play by play.

The blue team starts with ball. Jonathan foots around a defender and goes toward the playstructure, his team mates go above the retaining wall by the goal which is being defended by Juli and Jessalyn. Dad and Jacob attack Jonathan from both sides, Jonathans only option is over the retaining wall, so he kicks it up and over but it is intercepted by Juli, (excuse the football terminology) who does a long kick around the the pool to Dad. The blue team races back to the goal in an attempt to stop the drive. Dad kicks it long and goes down the hill, Jacob gets there first and brings it back to the top and kicks for a goal. Whoa! its blocked by the little guy who kicks it to Jonathan. Jonathan takes it past Jacob and through the playstructure, he rounds the corner of the retaining wall only to encounter Dad. Look at that! with a some fancy footwork he fakes Dad and shoots for the goal! Aww, its blocked by Jessalyn. who kicks it to Dad, Dad forwards it to Jacob and Jacob takes a shot at the goal only to have it go long and over the fence and down the driveway.
Both teams take a short break as Jonah goes and gets the ball.
Alright the game is back on! Neither team has scored yet! So Jonathan, as the inventor of the game changes the goals and makes them wider and taller. Jonathan sets up a strategy with his team Jonah and Jenessa are going to go strait to the goal and he is going to bring the ball to them. In order to do this he must pass Dad and Jacob.
Here we go folks! Next goal wins! Dad is guarding the pool route so Jonathan heads toward the playstructure again! Dad comes and tries for a steal! Jonathan puts on a burst of speed and passes him! but Jacob is waiting. Jonathan slows down going around the play structure as Jacob advances! Whats this!?! Dad comes from behind and there is a lot of footwork going on! Oh No Dad has the ball! he is taking the high road to the goal Jonathan takes a shortcut and beats him there while his tired teammates start coming over. Its Dad and Jacob vs Jonathan. The two red team players split with Dad on the right and Jacob on the left. Dad passes to Jacob, Jonathan is forced to defend the ball, so he goes to left, Jacob passes back to Dad, Jonathan slides to the right! But its a trick play! the ball goes back to Jacobs side and Jacob powers it into the Goal/gate! Red Team wins!!!!!

That is all true but it was cut out of the game which lasted for about 20 min.

After that we went and roasted marshmallows around the campfire and then headed inside after that!

Well to much more typing and I'm gonna get carpal tunnel, which, by the way, is where the nerve that goes through the wrist bones gets pinched by flexion. (rough description)

Well thats all for tonight folks!

Have a good night and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  3. Yeah, you were there on all the goals except for the last goal. I think you were running toward us but they made it before you could steal it.

    We should play that again!

  4. Hey my message disappeared! Here is is again:

My heart was racing reading to see who would win this exciting post. I'm all for an "out of the box" game of soccer. The deep holes all over your property makes for exciting dodging and an occasional broken leg; rusty metal pipes sticking out of the ground make running an art and that retaining wall with the infection causing splinters is so fun to slide on. You've changed grandma (you are saying to yourself). Yes I have! Because there is a budding paramedic in the midst that will bind those broken bones and administer first aid to those suffering from wounds. Go Jonathan!
